I’m pleased to officially (and finally!) announce the launch of Bello Lume Photography! After months of brainstorming and reflection, I really fell in love with the name “Bello Lume” which means “beautiful light” in Italian.

In connection with the launch of Bello Lume Photography, I am also unveiling my new blog site at www.bellolume.com, where you will begin to see some fun features and functions that I can’t offer here. Although I will no longer be updating this blog, I'm working on some really exciting posts that I can't wait to share with you on my new site. I hope you’ll continue to follow me at the Bello Lume Photography Blog – I look forward to catching up with you there!

Michael and Sarah - Engagement

I met up with Sarah and Michael to do their engagement shoot in Old Town Scottsdale. Sarah and Michael are adorable together, and Michael is such a gentlemen! He was so attentive to Sarah throughout the whole session. Quick little side story... The week after their engagement shoot was Valentines Day, Michael called me to see about getting a few favorites from the engagement session right away so that he could surprise Sarah with them as a Valentine's gift - how romantic and sweet!

These two were up for anything and we were able to get some amazing shots for them that really show how much love there is between the two of them!

Looking forward to the wedding in April!!

Introducing Mr. M... at 5 days old!

We were so excited to have the opportunity to do Mr. M's newborn session at just 5 days old. The best time for newborn images is really at about 5-9 days old, before they discover that they can stretch out their arms and legs. Mr. M was one of my best babies, as long as we kept him warm, we could move him around and he was totally chill and stayed sleeping almost the entire session! He was just a doll!

We were treated with a few smiles throughout the session...

We also had fun trying out some new hats! Love this one! He grabbed onto the tail of the hat...

I just love the peacefulness that new babies find in the arms of their new parents. Some of my favorite shots from sessions are the babies with their parents, and this time was no different...

Introducing Ashley...

We had the pleasure of meeting Ashley for her first photo shoot when she was 6 days old. It seems like we just had Kelly in the studio for her maternity session. Ashley arrived in January and she's a beautiful girl!

Introducing .... Kemper! This little guy is so sweet and cuddly. We did his newborn session at only 5 days old, and he was really an angel. We had a lot of fun with this session, both of his parents are firefighters, so we wanted to be sure to include an element from their lives...

While we were setting up this shot, K managed to wrap his toes around the visor of the helmet...

Because K was born so close to Christmas, we also wanted to memorialize that in his newborn images...

Baby on the Way...

Just a few quick ones to share from a recent maternity session... We had finished a full maternity session with Nicole a couple of weeks ago, but then in talking after her shoot and mentioning wanting to try out a new location at the Phoenix Art Museum Nicole volunteered and we had some fun results... I love the textures there and also that many of these don't really look like Phoenix!

Sweet Little M

The week of Christmas we had the pleasure of meeting up with sweet little M, who is 6 months old, and her mom and dad. The past summer we had done maternity pictures, so it was so fun to meet M and see her mom and dad again! They had asked to do pictures at the Grove Church in Chandler, which turned out to be a gorgeous location. I just loved the pecan trees, the canopy that the trees formed, and the walkways throughout the groves.

We wanted to make sure that we had some pictures of M, some relationship shots with her mom and dad and also some family shots. Here's a few of our favorites:

The church also had this gorgeous, rustic cross, which we wanted to incorporate into some of the images.

Engagement Session - Papago Park

As promised, this is part 2 of the engagement session that we had with Ryan and Fallon. For the second part of our session we headed over to Papago Park. They also decided to do a wardrobe change and elected to go with more formal clothes for the contrast against the red rocks at Papago - I loved the choice! I was also impressed that Fallon brought tennis shoes to walk up to the red rock area and then changed into her heals! So smart!

Again we were able to get some amazing shots! These two truly love each other and it shows!

We had some amazing light to work with as the sun was going down!

We are looking forward to the wedding in February!!

Love is in the Air - Engagement Session at Scottsdale Civic Center

A couple of weekends ago we had the pleasure of meeting up with Ryan and Fallon to do their engagement shoot. Fallon was so on top of everything for the shoot! We started with a list of about 10-15 places that she was considering for the engagement shoot, and we narrowed it down to two. We started at the Scottsdale Civil Center and planned to wind up the evening for sunset pictures at Papago Park. This was such a fun shoot and Ryan and Fallon were so easy to work with! We had been a little concerned that it would be busy, and we were right there was an art fair in progress, but we just worked around it. There were so many cute little areas to work with!

I am going to break this into two separate posts. There are just so many amazing pictures of Ryan and Fallon that we want to share!

Beautiful Maternity Session

anticipation...expectation...waiting...hoping...

I love maternity sessions! There is so much emotion with the anticipation of a new baby - especially a first baby. Kelly wasn't completely sold on doing a maternity session, but after talking it through - mostly of me telling her many times that it would be really fun and that it is a time in your life that you just cannot get back, so you should do it and have the memory of waiting for your baby in pictures.

Kelly is absolutely a stunning mom-to-be! I just love the feeling of these shots...

She's gorgeous!!!

Introducing...Callie Renee

I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Callie Renee when she was only 12 days old. What a sweetie pie. She had her eyes open for most of the session, but towards the end she finally drifted off and we were also able to get some sleeping shots.

Her big sister had to get in on the action too! Aren't they the most precious little girls?

Love these next couple - bright eyes and great eye contact for a very new baby!

Callie's mom asked about using a headband - which I loved! It was stretchy, but didn't leave mark and it wasn't super tight like some newborn headbands. Plus the flower clipped on - so adorable!

Pure Happiness - 6 month session

This was a super fun, whirlwind shoot - inside, outside, plus a couple of clothing changes and all in the amount of time that a 6 month old could handle! When I first arrived H was still taking a little nap. It took H a little while to warm up to the idea of a photo session. I love some of our initial shots though - he was being so cuddly and cute with his dad...

Loved this one with the hat, wish we could have been able to get him to keep it on, but better to have him happy!

Love this face - I really wonder what he was thinking!

Belly Shots and Kiddos - Fun at the Railroad Park

A couple of weekends ago we went to the Scottsdale Railroad Park for a maternity session with a few family shots and 18 month shots thrown in for good measure. Miss K LOVES the train. Every time the train came around should would do train sounds - so cute. We started with some belly shots of Nicole...

We also wanted to take an opportunity to get some unique shots...

These have to be some of my absolute favorites shots. The sun had gone down, so I maxed out the ISO and shot my 50/1.2 at 1.2, but I think these turned out really adorable! Just in case you are worried -- no children were in danger during the shoot - at the railroad park there is a stationary train that you can explore, and once the sun went down the lights came on :)

Are you ready for some serious cuteness? Brace yourselves - these little girls are way too cute! We went to the park in Gilbert with the goal of getting family pictures, the sisters together, and some of the girls individually. I think we definitely succeeded! While I've been working on these pictures, I find I'm continuously smiling! The girls' personalities shine through in the images, and I'm so excited to share them with you! Enjoy!

I recently did an extended family session with the H Family. I love doing these large family shoots, it's so fun and such a great opportunity to get the whole family together and all dressed up. Ruth had scheduled this shoot back in August, so this was well-planned and everyone was ready to roll! We really had a fun morning and were blessed with clouds so we had tons of options available to us.

The V Family

Jenette contacted me to set up an extended family session a couple of weeks ago. Some family was going to be in town, so they had a small window of opportunity to get everyone together, and I was happy to make time for this session. As always, we had so much fun! They wanted to get a few different looks of the whole family, and then do some separate groupings with the individual families, and do a few of the kids too. Whew! That's a lot to fit in when you have little ones that will lose attention, but it totally worked! A special thanks go to grandma who came prepared with her cooler, including cold water, snacks, and pez to "bribe" little E.

A little over a week ago I met up with this family at the Veteran's Desert Park. They wanted to get some family shots and also some new pictures of the two boys - B and N. I have to say, these are two of the nicest, sweetest boys that I have hung out with! They brought some of their favorite toys - stuffed animals and a football. I always like to find out what kids name their animals (or babies or barbies or whatever it may be). B and N were very practical - it was Bunny and Kitty. Makes sense to me - plus it's easy to remember :)

Cope Family

Last weekend we had a family session with the Cope family, including some 18 month pictures of Zane. I chose the location, which had a lake and a running stream. Little did I know (and I think to his parents surprise too), Zane was very, very interested in the water. Apparently he loves pools, but we didn't know that all water is equally AHH-MAZING! We did a few detours while walking around to avoid views of the water, and thankfully Zane was also really interested in the other kids that were running around (and maybe even remotely interested in my singing and dancing!) We took some wonderful images -- It was almost impossible for me to pick favorites! I love them all ... but I did try to restrain myself, so here's a few...

Dylan - Sneak Peak!

Dylan was such a sweetheart for his session. I like to encourage moms and dads to bring their child's favorite - toy, blanket, stuffed animal, etc. - to the session. Well, Dylan loves airplanes, so he brought his airplanes along. I wish the images could capture the noise he makes when he flies his airplanes. It was so cute! We also had some real planes fly over which captured Dylan's attention until they flew out of sight. Here's a sneak peak of the images...

Fancy Nancy Birthday Party

I had the pleasure of photographing Mercy's 4-year old birthday party which was a "Fancy Nancy" party. For those of you who were like me and hadn't heard of Fancy Nancy, there is a whole series of Fancy Nancy books for little girls. I have to admit this is a great theme for little girls! I know that I would have loved it :)

All the girls were able to pick out a dress to dress up in. There were all sorts of princess costumes - Cinderella, Snow White, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty - and many more. Once they had changed, the girls circulated through different stations - hair styling, nail painting, making a princess photo frame, decorating a cookie, and finally dance time! It was so much fun and I'm sure these girls were worn out in the afternoon. Here's a few of my favorites from the party...

This one totally cracks me up! This is Mercy's little sister. After everyone had moved through the changing station, she had wedged herself into the corner to hide from everyone. When we found her she gave us the sweetest smile!

Big Guy at 18 Months!

When we took Ethan's Halloween pictures, we also did an 18 month session. Ethan is such a pleasure to photograph - we had tons of fun hanging out outside and playing ball, and then inside, playing with cars, and singing songs. Great fun! Ethan has such an expressive face! I love the action shots, I'm not sure what he was thinking but I love the "cool guy" poses that he was giving me! :)

Welcome Baby Jonathan!

I had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan for the first time when he was only 8 days old. What a sweatheart! He did try to test our patience and see how long we would wait for him to fall asleep - but luckily for him, I'm a patient girl. I do think that he will be a strongwilled boy - but time will tell :)

We were able to get some amazing sleeping images. And also unlike many newborn portraits, we were also able to get a number of images with his eyes open. Jonathan has beautiful bright eyes!

Happy Halloween! I was able to do a photoshoot with Yoda (aka Ethan) before Halloween. He made an adorable Yoda. He also had a really cool lightsaber from Disneyland - what a great prop for the Yoda outfit! It glowed blue, which picked up really well on camera. Ethan loved playing with the lightsaber and he was so funny. It vibrated and made noise, and he was checking it out to see how it was doing it. Such a fun morning!

April has only a month left before her due date, and she was absolutely glowing when we did her maternity session. April is expecting the arrival of their second girl, who will be the little sister of 2-year-old Emily. We had a wonderful time doing her maternity shoot - lots of laughs. I always love incorporating the dads - they are just a much a part of the expectation of the new baby! We also wanted to get a few with Emily, however at 2, she wasn't quite grasping the idea that her new sister was in mama's belly. Oh well! I'm sure she'll make a wonderful and loving big sister.

Happy 4th Birthday Alyssa

Alyssa recently turned 4 years old. We had a great morning last weekend. It was a ton of fun, and we even incorporated a mini photography lesson and took a few pictures of her barbie (aka Rosemary) during the shoot. I think Alyssa may have liked being behind the camera even more than in front of it. (I can identify!) She did really great, and we were able to get some amazing images - I love that we have so many different smiles!!

Sweet Sisters - Pink, Pink, Pink!

Last weekend I was able to spend Saturday morning with the lovely, energetic Alaina and the sweet, gentle Liliana. These girls were so sweet and so cute. The morning was beautiful and they couldn't have looked more adorable with their pink shirts and adorable jeans! (It's finally jeans weather in Arizona - yay!)

First up ... almost-2-year Liliana. She was such a sweetheart all morning! For 2-year olds, I never really know what is going to happen. Sometimes I run around after them, and every once in a while they are really good to me and agree to sit in one spot. Saturday was my lucky day! Isn't she a cutie?

Next up ... 4-year old Alaina. This little girl was rockin' the camera. At first I thought she was going to be shy and timid and we'd have to work a little harder for the smiles, but she was fantastic!

We also were able to snatch a few of the girls together.

Miss Emily

A couple of weekends ago I had the pleasure of spending the morning with almost-2-year old Emily and her parents. It was a rainy morning, which never seems to happen in Arizona! The rain made it is a little interesting. We ran back to the car to wait out a couple of down pours, and we even drove to another park because we thought that the rain clouds weren't in that direction. Surprisingly, out running the clouds worked for a short while. Despite it all, we were able to get some amazing pictures of this little cutie! I love her serious look, and then I look at the ones of her huge smile and it's contagious. Cute, cute, cute!!

Beautiful Girls!

Last Saturday I had the opportunity of meeting with Cadence, who is about to turn 2, and her little sister, Caroline, who was 2 months. We had lots of fun! As is normal for 2 year olds we had a little bit of crying, a little bit of dancing and singing, and a lot of running around. With Caroline, we wore her out and had a sleeping baby by the end of the session. I just love sleeping baby pictures!! Unfortunately, we had a hard time getting Cadence to give her sister some love. All that being said, we got some great images of each of the girls!

Expecting a baby is an exciting time! There is so much to get ready, things to buy (can you believe how small newborn clothes are?), and a great time to have a photo session to memorialize those last moments when you carry your baby. I met up with CW and Amy a couple of weekends ago. She has a beautiful baby bump, and is unbelievably tiny! We had so much fun doing the session. They are so excited for the arrival of their baby boy - and it definitely shows.

The last one is way too sweet! You guys are going to be wonderful, loving parents! I cannot wait to do the newborn pictures!

6 Months, Sitting up, What a Big Boy!

Wow, time flies so fast and babies grow up and change right before our eyes. It's truly unbelievable! Over the months, and even in just a few weeks, they change and they have similarities from when they were a newborn or a couple of months old, but then at they same time they look totally different!

This little guy is my nephew, Max. I had the opportunity to photograph him at about 2 months, and I had another opportunity to photograph him a couple weekends ago when we visited them in California. What a cutie pie! I loved his progression of smiles - there was a cautious smile (that is still a big one!) and then there was a huge smile that went to all corners of his face.

Adam and Ashley, you are so blessed with such a wonderful, good-natured, and smilely little boy! Thanks for letting me capture him at 6 months! Love you guys!

Jackson, Wyoming

This week we returned from a mini-vacation to Jackson, Wyoming. Aaron and I have joined my parents on a portion of their summer vacation for the last 4 years. My favorite thing about Jackson is the Teton Mountain Range. It's an amazing landscape.

I took about 2000 pictures while we were there, mostly of wildlife. As a disclaimer, these pictures are not of a refuge or zoo, these are all wild animals.

Our first spotting was of big horn sheep. This was really cool for me because it was the first time I'd seen them in the wild.

Normally we will see elk really early in the morning, so it's typically low light or in fog (see below), but this guy cooperated mid-morning, so we were able to shoot some pictures of him in good light.

In past years we've been really spoiled seeing enormous bull moose, so this was one of the few that we spotted, and probably the largest. He had a great little place bedded down along a shoot off from a river.

I love this action shot of the elk jumping the fence.

We first spotted this mama moose and all she would give us was her behind so we figured she must have a baby hiding in the brush. We were right! We stuck around long enough for the baby to come down by her mama.

The rest of the images were all taken on our final day in Jackson. We were so fortunate the last day, because it was all about the antlers. We saw huge bull elk and mule deer, and a few more bull moose.

Summer Fun!

While it was hot here in Arizona, I took the opportunity to go back to Minnesota and visit my family. I had the opportunity not only to spend some quality time with my parents, brother and sister-in-law, but I was able to spend a ton of time with my cutie pie niece. Throughout the week, I snapped a bunch of images of Makhyla. Oh the life of a 2 year old, watering flowers, transferring water from pail to pail, playing bubbles, taking naps, eating freezies (which she did share), and wrapping everyone around your little finger!

Kids can be cute even when they are pouting! As the auntie, I'm a sucker for the big lip.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Emily for her 2 year old pictures. Emily was really quiet to start off, then we got a few smiles, and then, like most 2 year olds, she lost interest in the whole venture. We still had a great time and got some great pictures for mom and dad!

Workshop Time!

In June I attended the Creating Better Images workshop. It was a fantastic experience - so much information crammed into one day! If you want to learn more about taking better images or using your camera in manual mode definitely sign up for their next workshop. Kimberly Jarman and Jennifer Bowen teach the workshop together. They were both so wonderful! As part of the workshop, there were two photo shoots, a family shoot and a mock bride and groom.

Here's some of the images of the family shoot. It was a little crazy because there were about 20 photographers all trying to get the shot.

I don't think the poor little guy was able to warm up to the experience, but he sure LOVED his cars!

I think this one was my favorite - although it's hard to choose!

The second shoot was the mock bride and groom. Our "bride" was Cristi Owen who is a photographer, and Cristi's husband was out of town so her cousin agreed to stand in as the "groom". Cristi looked amazing!

Expecting...a Baby Girl! -- Chandler Maternity Photographer

I recently had the opportunity to do a maternity session with Amy. Amy is already so blessed to have two adorable boys, and she is expecting a little girl. When Amy and I talked before the photo session, we discussed the possibility of having her two boys and husband involved. But as we got closer to her session date, we talked again and she let me know she was coming solo. She used the photo session as a little time to herself. While I would have loved to include her husband and boys, I definitely can appreciate a little bit of quiet time before the arrival of a new baby.

Isn't she sweet? Davyn, her mom and grandma came over for her 3 month photo session a couple of weekends ago. This little girl has the most striking blue eyes! She was so precious, and although we really had to work for smiles - it was all worth it for these adorable images!

There is something so special about a couple awaiting there first baby. There's a certain excitement and expectation and emotion, which is why maternity photos are so fun. Wow, where does the time go? Whitney and I have known each other for about 7 years - we had shared an office for a summer when we were summer associates. I was just ecstatic for her and her husband, Chris, when she told me they were pregnant, and then was so honored when she asked me to take newborn pictures of their baby boy. He was open-eyed for most of our session, but towards the end I think we wore him out and we started to get the sleepy eyes. Congratulations! You have a beautiful baby boy and make a gorgeous family. I'm so happy for you!

PLNU Graduate! Details, Details, Details

In May (I know, I know, the post is a little late!) we were able to travel to San Diego to celebrate the college graduation of my beautiful sister-in-law, Ashley. She graduated with a degree in industrial organizational psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University. My mother-in-law knows how to throw a party and manages to attend to every detail. She transformed a hotel room into party central! While we were waiting for the rest of the family to arrive, I took some time to try to capture those details. In keeping with school spirit, all the decor was green and yellow, the school colors of PLNU. Congratulations Ashley! We love you!

I had the honor of taking pictures of the Myers/Jacobs extended family. Like so many of us, they hadn't had a group shot taken for quite some time - some of the younger kiddos weren't in the last one. It was definitely time for some new pictures! Finishing up editing these pictures all I can do is smile. Although these pictures may look like just a cute little girl, it's so much more than that. These pictures really speak to who she is, and really that's what having photographs is all about. So that you can look at that picture and say that's so her (or that's so him), and you have that memory forever. A special thanks to Mak (and Pinky) for being herself and allowing me to capture that forever.

Makhyla - 2 years old

Wow how has two years gone by already! This beautiful little girl is my niece. She has gorgeous curly blonde hair, and is a bit mischievous. She absolutely loves her baby, who she has named Pinky. When we did the photo shoot, I wanted to make sure that we had Pinky in some of the pictures because she is such an important part of her life right now. We had a great time getting these pictures - we sang "If you're happy and you know it" and the ABC's, and we even did some dancing in the process. I'm still editing some of the pictures so stay tuned for another post.

Baby Max

Max was about 7 1/2 weeks old for his photo shoot. Babies are simply adorable with their little fingers and little toes, what's not to love! Even with a little crying and eating breaks we managed to get great pictures. Congratulations on your beautiful baby!
